Kelsey & Frank’s Nashville Wedding | Hermitage Hotel Wedding

Hi there friends! You are going to love this beautiful Nashville wedding! We knew the first time we met with Kelsey & Frank, that we were a perfect fit 🙂 We had so much fun with them and their wedding day was absolutely stunning. From their ceremony at Christ Church Cathedral to the reception at The Hermitage Hotel— we loved every second of their day. It was a day full of happiness and celebration. We just loved all the classic, gorgeous details. Kelsey & Frank’s wedding day was in good hands with Mary Alice Sublett from A Delightful Day. She made sure everything went perfectly and we loved working with her team. And check out the gorgeous ballroom at Hermitage Hotel! Hillary with Brocade Designs made sure all the flowers were perfect! Band 24/7 has played at quite a few of the weddings we’ve done in the past few years, and they never disappoint.

Kelsey & Frank, thank you so much for allowing us to be a part of your day and for trusting us with documenting your wedding! We had such a great time with you guys, your family and friends. Check out some of our favorites:

Erin & Patrick’s Wedding | St. Henry Church + Hillwood Country Club

Happy Friday friends! It’s time to relive Erin & Patrick’s gorgeous, fun wedding today 🙂 What a day this was! We have to give Erin an award for the most excited, jump up and down with joy, giddiest bride ever. 😉 Watching she and Patrick during their first look was absolutely adorable. Erin couldn’t contain her excitement for the day and it made for some amazing pictures. A note to our couples- be yourselves during your first look– don’t hold back your emotions! You’ll love the pictures more if you just try to be in the moment with each other. We had an absolute blast with this couple and their incredible family and friends. They met at the University of Tennessee like Dusty and I did so we clicked immediately. Their day was beautiful (and quite hot outside) but was one big celebration…which you all know we LOVE. 🙂

Their beautiful ceremony was at St. Henry Church with the reception at Hillwood Country Club. They were surrounded by many family and friends and made sure to enjoy every part of the day. We were honored to be a part of it!

We loved sharing in all the special moments from this wedding and are so excited to share some of our favorite pictures from Erin & Patrick’s wedding day. A huge thank you to these wonderful vendors who made everything perfect:

Abi & Omar’s Nashville Wedding

We are so excited to share pictures from this gorgeous, FUN wedding! Abi & Omar  (and truly all of our couples this year) were just a perfect ‘fit’ for us. We had so much fun with them and really loved being a part of their day. Abi and I were in the same sorority at UT so it was really fun to reconnect with her during their wedding planning process. We knew we were going to love them when we met last Fall to do their engagement session and then ended our night with drinks together. We loved hearing all about their plans for the big day and how excited they were to celebrate with their family and friends.

We started the day with some getting ready pictures of Abi at the Union Station Hotel downtown (which had the most gorgeous light–can everyone get ready here please?!). Their ceremony was at Christ The King and the reception was at aVenue. They really did choose some beautiful Nashville locations for their big day.

After their first look outside Christ The King, we were able to walk around and get some great pictures of just the two of them. This is one of our favorite parts of the day– our couples are more relaxed now that they’ve seen each other and they’re just enjoying some time together taking pictures. We try our hardest to make sure it’s a fun process too. 🙂 After their beautiful ceremony, we headed to aVenue for a reception that will go down in the books. Seriously… it was epic. (I never say that word)….but really….talk about a DANCE PARTY. These people did not want to stop…in fact, they extended the party for another 2 hours almost! We had taken SO many pictures at that point, we finally just joined the party and danced with Abi & Omar.

Abi & Omar, thank you so much for allowing us to be a part of your day and for trusting us with your pictures. We wish you guys nothing but happiness & can’t wait to hang out again soon!

A huge shoutout to these fabulous vendors who made Abi & Omar’s day perfect:

Friday Favorite | Laura & Beau’s McConnell House Wedding

Happy Friday friends! We’re headed to Memphis this weekend for Rachael & David’s wedding! We can’t wait 🙂 Stay tuned for pictures from that. It’s been a busy few months around here and we’re just coming up for air. Can’t wait to share everything we’ve been up to – including today’s gorgeous wedding 🙂 We had such a great time getting to know Laura & Beau and loved this laid back couple. Their wedding was so beautiful and simple. I just loved the little chapel where they were married. Kings Chapel is in Arrington, TN and we just loved shooting here. Their reception was at the McConnell House in downtown Franklin. This place is amazing. Such a great, unique spot for a reception and the food was absolutely incredible. 🙂 Laura & Beau had a wonderful DJ who did a great job getting everyone on the dance floor. We loved working with Josh from High Tone Entertainment!

Ruby Weddings | Julia & Micah’s Nashville Wedding

Hi everyone! We’re excited to share with you more pictures from Julia & Micah’s gorgeous wedding at Ruby in Nashville. This was such a fun wedding for us. Julia & Micah are such sweet people and we really enjoyed getting to know them. Their wedding was on a Monday which was a nice change of pace for us! They decided to do a first look and had this to say about the experience:

Julia’s thoughts:

“My nerves went out the window after I saw Micah for our first look. It was such a beautiful moment and it was probably the only time we had together without a billion people around! The pictures being done before the ceremony was also my favorite part. We got to enjoy it all and take it all in without being stressed about timelines. From someone who was a little weary about the first look, I would highly suggest it now to any couple!”

Micah’s thoughts:

“Once the ceremony started the night went pretty fast like everyone said it would. The first look gave me a chance to be present and take the time with my bride to realize what day it was.
After that moment , it seemed like time slowed down and I was able to enjoy the day with Julia. Rather than just being anxious until she walked down the aisle.”

Needless to say, they are so happy the decided to do the first look. I have to say- Micah had one of the best reactions we’ve ever seen at seeing his beautiful bride for the first time. It was a very emotional and exciting moment for them and he just kept yelling ‘wooo!’ as he looked at his beautiful bride. 🙂 I loved it. Seeing each other before the ceremony really didn’t take away from the moment she walked down the aisle- as you’ll see by the look on Micah’s face!

We had such a great time with these two. They are the kind of people you just immediately want to be friends with and their love for each other is so very obvious. I love how humble they are too. They’re both in the music industry and very talented people! Julia even recorded her singing Christina Perri’s ‘A Thousand Years’ and had it playing as a surprise to him as she walked down the aisle. The look on his face was amazing as he realized it was her singing as she came down the aisle. Talk about tear jerker!

Friday Favorite | Julia & Micah’s Nashville Wedding at Ruby

Happy Friday everyone! We’re so glad it’s September- that means Fall is on the way which is a very busy time for us!

We had the honor of photographing Julia & Micah’s wedding a few weeks at ago at Ruby and it was such a blast. It was our first Monday wedding and was a nice change! We had such a great time getting to know these too during their engagement session and couldn’t wait for this wedding. We wanted to post a little sneak peek for them since they are patiently waiting!!

Julia & Micah chose to do a First Look and they are so glad they did. We can’t wait to post next week some of the great feedback we’ve gotten from our couples who have done the first look. It ends up being such a special time and I think you’ll see from the ceremony pictures here that it didn’t take away from that moment when Julia came down the aisle!

Enough of my babbling… check out this adorable couple:

Using Pinterest (in a positive way) to plan your wedding

Hello there friends! Well, if you haven’t read yesterday’s post/rant about Pinterest you should check that out first. I really hope I didn’t offend anyone. I had quite a few people saying they felt the exact same way but part of me feels like maybe I should clear a few things up:

  • By no means do I hate Pinterest. I think it can be an awesome tool and a great place for learning some really cool stuff, gathering great ideas, etc.
  • I also want everyone to know I love weddings with tons of details, and all those perfectly planned and executed ideas. I just want to urge people to make sure that whatever you’re doing that you’re being true to yourself!
  • I also don’t want our clients to feel like they can’t show us things they like on Pinterest. Please do! Just take the time to really think about what you like/want from your photography and why you feel that way. Is it a picture you genuinely connect with or just a shot you feel like you have to have because everyone else is doing it?

With that said, let’s talk about some great things to remember when using Pinterest to plan your wedding:

Gathering a big picture board of inspiration. Obviously there is no shortage of ideas, photo shoots, and real weddings to gather inspiration from. During the beginning stages of planning your wedding you might not know exactly what your vision is. Go ahead and pin everything that you like! The great thing about having everything on one board at first is that it allows you to see everything in a big picture way. Then you can start narrowing down your ideas and making your vision come together. This is so fun! Maybe once you have this ‘big picture’ board done with a few pictures then you can start building more detailed boards for each area of your wedding. Revisit this board and edit it (delete pins) to really narrow things down to what you want.

Narrowing down the things you want for each category of your wedding day. Maybe once you have your big picture board done then you can start building boards for each category. You’ll be able to use these to show your wedding vendors your ideas, things you love and hope to have. I just urge you to use what you see as inspiration. Don’t feel like you have to completely replicate everything you see! Make it your own.

Start following other wedding vendors and experts. You’ll be able to see what these professionals think and it’s a great place to start when looking for ideas. These wedding vendors do this for a living and can offer you a unique perspective. Hire a wedding planner. You won’t regret it. Then allow them to use your boards to help you plan a wedding that is unique to you as a couple!

Try not to micromanage. I know this is going to really ruffle some feathers but I want you to know- your vendors really do care about your wedding. We’re professionals at what we do and we want your wedding day to be absolute perfection. If you’re picking true professionals for your vendors then you don’t need to worry about each and every last detail. Use pinterest as a way to make sure you and your vendors are on the same page. Once you know they understand your vision, take a step back and allow them to do their job. You’ll be so happy when you just trust your vendors and enjoy your wedding planning process!! 🙂

Be realistic about your budget. Let’s face it. Some of the things you find on Pinterest are totally over the top. Just be mindful of this if you’re on a strict budget (most of us are!).

Turn. It. Off. Once you’ve pinned what you need for inspiration and you’ve shown your vendors what you want them to see…it’s time to take a break. Seriously. Turn it off. If you allow yourself to just keep pinning you’re going to drive yourself crazy (your fiance and your wedding planner too ;)).

I know wedding planning can be totally overwhelming. Please please please though- enjoy the process! It really can be fun if you just stay true to who you are as a couple, hire the right people and take a step back to enjoy it!

Looks like I’m not the only one with these thoughts. I love these ideas from Emily Humphries on Ashley’s Bride Guide. Check out her post: The Pinterest Affect: Don’t Let Pinterest Ruin Your Wedding. Amen Emily!

Happy Planning friends!

The guy’s perspective. Why Dusty loves shooting weddings

I (Dusty) absolutley LOVE this job!  First of all working with Leslie is AMAZING.  My parents ran a family business when I was growing up so it’s always been a dream of mine to run my own business one day.  Now it’s a reality and it couldn’t be more perfect working with Leslie.  I’m a big believer in doing work that means something and doing what you love. We plan to instill these principles in Davis so he can grow up and one day do the work he loves.  Relationships have always been very important to me.  I love getting to know our clients.  I love hearing their story and what brought them together.  Building genuine relationships makes our clients feel at ease and gives us a better opportunity to capture natural pictures.  Living these special moments with people is something that never gets old and delivering beautiful images is simply icing on the cake.I love shooting weddings with Leslie.  It’s so fun to hang out with the guys while Leslie is spending time with the girls.  I love getting shots of the groom and his buddies a few hours before the big moment.  I love getting shots like this of the groom before the ceremony. It’s a moment I remember from our wedding- writing Leslie a letter. I try to stay out of the way so the groom can feel comfortable.

I love getting “guy” detail shots that Leslie might not notice.

For some reason, I really like shoes…..I literally have more shoes than Leslie does…..I know it’s weird and I hate to admit it but it’s true…..that being said….I really like getting a shot of the bride and groom’s shoes together.

I love seeing grandparents on the dance floor at a reception.  I love capturing this for the family to enjoy!

In my opinion, the band makes or breaks the reception.  A great band knows how to get the party started.  I love taking shots of the band in action.

We’re just really happy we get to do this for a living and get to be a part of people’s big celebrations!

{weddings} Amethyst & Bennett’s Scarritt Bennett Wedding

Hi everyone! I posted some of Amethyst’s bridal portraits that we did at Scarritt Bennett last Friday. Be sure to check those out! Dusty and I had a great time with this couple. We scheduled a first look with them before the ceremony and I’m so glad that we did– we had a lot of time for pictures of just the two of them. When we were done with their pictures a storm popped up and we had to do all of their wedding party pictures inside. It worked out perfect though! Amethyst was so laid back about everything and just enjoyed her day. Bennett was just happy to be marrying Amethyst. They read vows they had written for each other and it was so sweet. Thank you guys so much for allowing us to be a part of your special day!!

{friday favorite} Barnsley Gardens Bridal Portraits

Happy Friday everyone! I’m excited to finally be able to share pictures from Katie’s bridal portrait now that she is officially Mrs. Lewis! We had such a great time at John & Katie’s wedding and I can’t wait to share pictures from that 🙂 John and I grew up together so it was really fun to watch him on his wedding day and capture all of the excitement. Katie was adorable and so excited to be marrying John. We had a blast at her bridal portraits.
