Leslie Walker Photography is back!

Hey friends! I am SO very excited to finally share my new website with everyone! I’ve been working on this behind the scenes for a year now and am so happy with the finished product. Thank you so much to our good friend Joey for making this space feel like the perfect representation of me and my love for this incredible job.

Atlanta Maternity, Newborn and Family Photographer

A little back story on why I’ve decided to go back to Leslie Walker Photography…

I am sorry to say that Dusty has gotten the boot πŸ˜‰ If you’ve been following for a few years, you know that I started this business back in 2008 when we were living in Charleston. Then we moved to Nashville and when weddings started to ramp up, Dusty began shooting with me. We decided to change to Leslie & Dusty Photography and we spent a few years photographing beautiful weddings. We had the best time. We met so many amazing couples, made sure their memories were documented beautifully, danced during their receptions and tasted all the best wedding cakes. It was a very fun time for us! And then we started to grow our family and when Charlie was born life was just a little more complicated. It started to feel like our weekends weren’t ours anymore and we wanted to make sure we spent as much time with our kids as possible. Especially in these early years. So when we moved to Atlanta we decided to take a break from weddings and let me focus on newborns and families. Before we moved I said to Dusty ‘I think I want to focus more on babies and families’ And sometimes all it takes is speaking something outloud to get the ball rolling.

I have been so amazed at how quickly this business has grown since we moved to Atlanta. I’m right where I’m supposed to be and it’s an incredible feeling. Motherhood changed me in so many ways. And I’m so thankful because it also sparked a passion in me to capture beautiful pictures for other families. I get it now…I’m a busy mom of two wild little boys and these days are long. I’m making lunches, cleaning crayon off the walls and running a business. It’s a crazy life but I am so incredibly happy. I remember those first days of bringing home a newborn. Those days are hard but truly some of my best memories. And I understand the desire to have beautiful pictures to document this time in your lives. Even the messy, tantrum filled moments. I’m told all the time that I have incredible patience with babies and children. At least with other people’s kids I do πŸ˜‰ And this job definitely requires patience and the ability to sing and dance like a fool in order to get little people to smile. I love this job and I am so honored that people allow me into their lives in this way.

This is going to be a fun adventure! Bring me all your babies πŸ™‚ Thanks for allowing me to do what I love!

I am now booking into the summer for Newborns, Babies and Families. Make sure you follow me on Facebook and Instagram for more updates! And you might want to check my instagram a little later today for a really exciting giveaway! πŸ˜‰

Here’s to 2018!

Hey everyone! It’s been a loooong time since I’ve posted. Yikes! We had quite a year last year– I know so many people feel the same way but we were honestly excited to say goodbye to 2017. Just seems like last year was a hard year for a lot of people. I was super busy with photography and SO very thankful about that… but on the personal side of our lives we were dealing with one hard thing after another. Sometimes adulting is just HARD isn’t it? We dealt with loss, hard changes in family relationships, house troubles and my mom was diagnosed with lung cancer right when I was gearing up for Fall Mini sessions. It was A LOT. And still is but I’m starting to dig out of the fog and am truly so excited for this new year. A fresh start is always nice. And while all of those things don’t just go away and get better, we learn to work through them and focus on what matters the most. To me, those things are my family, my friends and this business. It fills me with absolute happiness that I get to document these seasons of life for people.

Leslie Walker Photography is coming back!

Last year about this same time I started working on the process of re-branding this business and a new website. It’s been time to move back to Leslie Walker Photography for a while now (no offense to my amazing husband). When we moved here 2.5 years ago we made the decision to take a step back from photographing weddings….Dusty started working full time for an awesome company and I was really feeling to pull to just focus on newborns and families. We’ve really enjoyed this decision. Dusty has enough on his plate and even though he enjoyed shooting with me, he just needs a break on the weekends! And the main desire to step away from weddings came from our 2 boys…once we had them it just didn’t seem to make sense for us to both be gone all weekend shooting weddings. We loved every second of it but our time with our kids is something we’ll never get back.

The re-brand process has been another thorn in my side the past year — we were working with a company on my new site and unfortunately it just didn’t work out. I took a few months off from worrying about it so I could focus on my mom and now I’m gearing up again to get this new website launched. So please stay tuned! I’m so excited about this next step.

In the craziness of the year, I had to put the blog on the back of my to-do list just so I could focus on clients and delivering their beautiful images. With that said– I have SO much to share. I feel like I’ve been holding out on everyone– there are tons of pictures just waiting to be posted!

Hi friends! We’ve had quite a baby boom around here and I am LOVING it! πŸ™‚ And most of these sweet babies decided to make an early entrance. It’s been so much fun being a part of this exciting time for all these families and we can’t wait to share some of our favorites.

I did big sister, Charlotte’s newborn pictures 3 years ago when we lived in Nashville and then shortly after that Courtney & George moved back to Atlanta. It’s been fun to reconnect with them and be a part of this time in their lives as they just welcomed baby girl #3! They have 3 beautiful girls under the age of 3 and you guys… they are the sweetest. Courtney & George are such amazing parents–Β it can’t be easy having 3 kids that young but they areΒ just so thankful and it shows.

Thank you to Courtney & George for allowing me into your gorgeous home to document this time!

Using Pinterest (in a positive way) to plan your wedding

Hello there friends! Well, if you haven’t read yesterday’s post/rant about Pinterest you should check that out first. I really hope I didn’t offend anyone. I had quite a few people saying they felt the exact same way but part of me feels like maybe I should clear a few things up:

  • By no means do I hate Pinterest. I think it can be an awesome tool and a great place for learning some really cool stuff, gathering great ideas, etc.
  • I also want everyone to know I love weddings with tons of details, and all those perfectly planned and executed ideas. I just want to urge people to make sure that whatever you’re doing that you’re being true to yourself!
  • I also don’t want our clients to feel like they can’t show us things they like on Pinterest. Please do! Just take the time to really think about what you like/want from your photography and why you feel that way. Is it a picture you genuinely connect with or just a shot you feel like you have to have because everyone else is doing it?

With that said, let’s talk about some great things to remember when using Pinterest to plan your wedding:

Gathering a big picture board of inspiration.Β Obviously there is no shortage of ideas, photo shoots, and real weddings to gather inspiration from. During the beginning stages of planning your wedding you might not know exactly what your vision is. Go ahead and pin everything that you like! The great thing about having everything on one board at first is that it allows you to see everything in a big picture way. Then you can start narrowing down your ideas and making your vision come together. This is so fun! Maybe once you have this ‘big picture’ board done with a few pictures then you can start building more detailed boards for each area of your wedding. Revisit this board and edit it (delete pins) to really narrow things down to what you want.

Narrowing down the things you want for each category of your wedding day.Β Maybe once you have your big picture board done then you can start building boards for each category. You’ll be able to use these to show your wedding vendors your ideas, things you love and hope to have. I just urge you to use what you see as inspiration. Don’t feel like you have to completely replicate everything you see! Make it your own.

Start following other wedding vendors and experts. You’ll be able to see what these professionals think and it’s a great place to start when looking for ideas. These wedding vendors do this for a living and can offer you a unique perspective. Hire a wedding planner. You won’t regret it. Then allow them to use your boards to help you plan a wedding that is unique to you as a couple!

Try not to micromanage. I know this is going to really ruffle some feathers but I want you to know- your vendors really do care about your wedding. We’re professionals at what we do and we want your wedding day to be absolute perfection. If you’re picking true professionals for your vendors then you don’t need to worry about each and every last detail. Use pinterest as a way to make sure you and your vendors are on the same page. Once you know they understand your vision, take a step back and allow them to do their job. You’ll be so happy when you just trust your vendors and enjoy your wedding planning process!! πŸ™‚

Be realistic about your budget. Let’s face it. Some of the things you find on Pinterest are totally over the top. Just be mindful of this if you’re on a strict budget (most of us are!).

Turn. It. Off. Once you’ve pinned what you need for inspiration and you’ve shown your vendors what you want them to see…it’s time to take a break. Seriously. Turn it off. If you allow yourself to just keep pinning you’re going to drive yourself crazy (your fiance and your wedding planner too ;)).

I know wedding planning can be totally overwhelming. Please please please though- enjoy the process! It really can be fun if you just stay true to who you are as a couple, hire the right people and take a step back to enjoy it!

Looks like I’m not the only one with these thoughts. I love these ideas from Emily Humphries on Ashley’s Bride Guide. Check out her post: The Pinterest Affect: Don’t Let Pinterest Ruin Your Wedding. Amen Emily!

Happy Planning friends!

{Best Friday Favorite Ever} Introducing…

Born April 9, 2012 Β  Β  10:18 a.m.

6 lbs. Β 12 oz. Β  20.5 in

This is going to be a long one folks…

The back story–

I’m not quite sure how to even write this post. The past few days have been such a whirlwind. My mom got here last Friday and surprised me. We weren’t sure when she would drive in from Atlanta but she was dying to just be here and worried she would get a call from me in the middle of the night so she just jumped in the car. She has been amazing- cleaning our house, grocery shopping and helping us so much. I can’t thank her enough. On Saturday we ran some errands and came back to the house to do things around here so I could just get my mind off the fact that I was READY to have this baby. In fact, my mom and Dusty thought it would be hilarious if I cut the grass. So, I did. 9 Months pregnant but only for a few minutes. Β πŸ™‚ I think it worked! Around 3 a.m. we ended up leaving for the hospital but were sent home around 6:00 a.m. on Sunday morning because things had slowed down. I was really disappointed but tried to relax and remember that the baby would arrive when he/she was ready. I actually got a few hours sleep on Sunday morning. We went about our day and took a few walks hoping it would start labor again. I didn’t think it would work but around 3:00 on Sunday afternoon I was most definitely in labor. We waited as long as we could before heading to the hospital- I was not going to be sent home twice! We were admitted around 10:00 Sunday night and our little man was born Monday at 10:18 a.m.

And now that HE is here–

We were surrounded by family and friends on the most special day of our lives. It was a day we’ll never forget. I made sure to soak it all in and really take in each moment– even during the pain. I couldn’t wait to meet our child and it was so worth everything we had to go through to get there. I’m pretty sure all the doctors and nursers were just as excited to see if it was a boy or girl and we all shouted in unison IT’S A BOY! Seeing him for the first time is something I’ll never forget. His eyes searching to find me as I talked to him, touching his sweet face like I had always imagined I would. He’s absolutely perfect and I just can’t believe he’s ours. We are thanking God every minute for trusting us with this precious little boy. We’re so thankful for all the kind words and prayers we’ve received. Davis is one lucky little boy. I keep telling him how loved he is and how many people he already has that the can always count on.

I also have to say- I have an incredible husband. I’ve never felt so taken care of in my life. Just when I thought he couldn’t be more amazing… he shows me I am wrong. Dusty was by my side every step of the way and even through his own fear found the strength to step up and help me. I am so grateful for his help and constant love. Davis has a wonderful daddy and it makes me cry just thinking about how lucky they are to have each other. I can only hope Davis grows up to be just like his Daddy. πŸ™‚

I’m sure I’ll be posting tons of pictures of our little man as he grows. I can’t wait to take the next month to get to know him and spend some quality time at home. I love you baby boy.

And now for some pictures!!

My mom is officially hired for LWP– she took these pictures of us just minutes after he was born πŸ™‚

Β We wanted to come up with a fun way to announce if it was a boy or girl to our family in the waiting room. We wrapped 2 pairs of shoes– pink converse & blue converse and brought out the blue ones for them to open. Here is their reaction. Totally priceless.

Getting ready to go home! He was swimming in his outfit!

Davis meeting his big brother Bean. Bean has adjusted surprisingly well πŸ™‚

I took this last night. πŸ™‚ We’ve made a vow to keep our camera around at all times to document this exciting time.

And as if that wasn’t enough… our friend Tyler did something for us that we’ll never be able to thank him for. There are no words… just this INCREDIBLE video he put together. I’ll leave you with this…

{friday favorite} Nursery Progress

Happy Friday everyone! I thought I would wait until the nursery was done to post pictures but I just can’t wait…and our bedding won’t be here until Mid March so I’ll just post the final nursery pictures once that arrives! Last weekend my friend Meredith was in town to help us get everything set up. It’s funny though- the week before she was here I was looking around in the room and actually thought to myself “I don’t know exactly what we’re going to do when she’s here. There isn’t that much to do”. HAH. We worked our tails off. Talk about back pain. We were nonstop from Saturday morning till Saturday night when we decided to finally feed our guest and show her some of Nashville. And we were back at it again Sunday morning until we had to take her to the airport. Mere- you are SUCH a great friend and I appreciate your help more than you know.

We accomplished so much in one weekend. And it’s hard to tell just by looking at the pictures but I promise you it was a ton of work. A lot of our time was spent getting things out of the guest bedroom that didn’t belong there– anything baby related was sorted and actually put in the nursery. It took Mere about half the day to install the curtain rods, hem the curtains to the right length and iron them. I love these cheap Ikea curtains but it was a ton of work. And I’m glad I didn’t do them because they wouldn’t have turned out so perfect πŸ™‚

So, it’s important to show where we first started with this room! Here it is during our walk through with the previous owners’ things:

Here is the room on move-in day- notice the carpet!

Right before Thanksgiving we pulled up the carpet to see what the hardwood floors looked like underneath. We did this in the nursery and my office (I’ll post pictures from the office update soon too!). We ended up hiring some guys to refinish the floors and they look GREAT. We are so happy with them and it really makes both of these rooms so much cleaner and feel a lot bigger.

Here is the room with carpet pulled while Dusty paints πŸ™‚ The walls are a light grey- even though they look kind of blue.

This dresser was in my mom’s house. I think it belonged to my grandfather’s sister? Right Papa? πŸ™‚

Dusty worked really hard to prime and paint this and I LOVE how it turned out. A fun, bright yellow πŸ™‚ This will be the dresser/changing table.

Meredith hard at work on the curtains:

I found the idea for this sign on Pinterest and I decided that we absolutely had to have it in the nursery. We found some old cedar boards in our attic and laid them out to see how they would look together. Then we used liquid nails to adhere them to a backer board so we could hang it as one giant piece. I painted over the boards very lightly with white paint and then printed the letters and used carbon paper to transfer them to the sign. Then I painted the letters with brown paint. Please excuse my appearance but here I am painting the first letters.

Measuring very very very carefully to figure out where the sign would go. We wanted to make sure it was high enough above the crib so our little one can’t reach it. And believe me, this thing is secured to the wall. We might not ever get it down but we feel good that it’s up there and won’t budge. We discussed putting it on a different wall but I really wanted it to be a focalpoint in the room. The sign says ‘You are loved. Always’ and I hope baby Walker always knows that πŸ™‚

Here we are hanging the sign:

It’s really hilarious how long it took us to measure and re-measure to figure out where all the screws would go. But it ended up working out. Here is the madness:

The finished sign. I am so in love with this. πŸ™‚

And here is the room! We obviously have a lot to do still– baby needs a mattress and bedding, artwork has been ordered for the walls, shelving, etc. But everytime I walk past this room it makes me smile. πŸ™‚

All we need are baby items and a baby!

Yes, this is still a photography blog πŸ˜‰ I just love sharing about our lives as well. We’re excited for a weekend of working on LWP and making some updates to the business! I’m loving all the brides I’m currently talking to about their weddings. It looks like we’ll be very busy starting in June!

{friday favorite} Nashville engagement pictures

Happy Friday everyone! I’m back for another Friday Favorite πŸ™‚ I’m going through tons of pictures from the past few months to update the website and make a few blog changes and I realized I haven’t posted Gracyn & Alan’s engagement pictures we did at Percy Warner Park! I had a great time with this couple. They were so sweet and you can really tell they are so excited to be getting married. I loved this session- simple, candid pictures in a beautiful location. It was a pretty hot day when we did these and we ‘hiked’ the stone steps at Percy Warner Park to get some great shots. This park is gorgeous and such a great spot for pictures… although you have to dodge the 100s of people who are working out. Let me tell you…those steps are certainly a workout πŸ™‚ Maybe I should go there more often.

And now to the pictures…
